About This Place

Nestled in the heart of London's vibrant Covent Garden, Giovanni's of Covent Garden offers an authentic slice of Italian culinary heritage that transports diners straight to Sicily. This Italian restaurant and pasta shop is a cherished gem where tradition meets exceptional quality, serving a palate-pleasing array of classic dishes that feel both comforting and indulgent.

From the moment you step into Giovanni's, the warm, inviting atmosphere wraps around you like a familiar embrace — a cozy, intimate setting perfect for leisurely lunches, romantic dinners, or catching up with friends over robust Italian wine and mouthwatering plates. The decor echoes an old-world charm with touches that evoke a sense of timeless Italy, beautifully complementing the passionate Italian service that guests consistently praise.

The menu is a celebration of Italian flavors, showcasing specialties such as the delicate Vermicelli all’Aglio e Peperoncino — fine spaghetti infused with aromatic Sicilian garlic, extra virgin olive oil, and a subtle kick of fresh chili that tingles the palate. The housemade Ravioli con Ricotta e Spinaci boasts ripples of tender pasta stuffed with creamy ricotta and bright young spinach leaves, sautéed in rich grassfed butter and fragrant sage, offering a heavenly melt-in-the-mouth experience.

Adventurous diners will delight in the rich umami of the Wild Boar Pasta or the smoky, satisfying crunch of Bistecca Impanata Palermitana, a charcoal-grilled, breadcrumbed beef steak infused with aromatic herbs. The crisp, succulent Salsiccia al Ferri, Sicilian roasted pork sausages paired with wild fennel and tender lentils, provides an authentic taste of rustic Italy.

Seafood lovers can indulge in the freshly grilled Orata Alla Griglia or the tender Spaghetti Alle Vongole — perfect marriages of delicate flavor and fresh ingredients that honor Italian coastal traditions. To round off any meal, the legendary desserts like creamy Tiramisu, the unmistakably perfect Cannoli, and the indulgent Melt in the Middle Chocolate Pudding with Cream offer sublime sweetness to linger on your taste buds.

Critics and customers alike rave about Giovanni’s attentive, family-style hospitality. Kirsten Hampy beautifully captures the sentiment: "An exceptional dining experience!!! We were made to feel like family from the minute we walked in the door!! Each meal was DELICIOUS!" Likewise, the cozy, charming vibe is lauded by Niki Rakopoulou, who calls it "a welcoming, cozy, and perfectly authentic" atmosphere with impeccable service from the polite and genuine chef Pino.

The restaurant’s ability to provide an oasis of calm amid the buzzing Covent Garden scene adds to its magnetic appeal. ‘Itchy Feet Foodies’ describes it as "old school cool and excellent," perfectly matched by food that is nothing short of amazing, crafting the perfect setting for romantic dinners or intimate gatherings.

After two decades of visits, Italian native Alessandro Giacobbe puts it best: "Amazing Italian food + celebrities’ favorite movie set atmosphere + super friendly staff = best Italian restaurant experience in London!" Giovanni’s truly stands out, not just as a place to eat, but as a memorable experience where passion for food and genuine hospitality come alive in every dish and exchange.

Whether you’re craving pan-fried chicken infused with chili and olive oil, the homey goodness of Lasagne, or the crisp freshness of Burrata, Giovanni’s of Covent Garden promises a deeply satisfying journey through Sicilian flavors and heartfelt service. Make your next meal a true celebration of Italy’s rich culinary tapestry — you’ll leave with a full belly, a warm heart, and a strong desire to return.

We were here today for my birthday dinner and absolutely loved our experience here! The food was simply delicious – every dish was bursting with Italian flavors. The service felt very homely, and the owner, Pino Ragona, is incredibly warm and friendly. You can truly see his passion shining through in both the food and the hospitality. The ambience is cozy, with a warm setting that makes it perfect for a relaxed evening or even a romantic candlelight dinner. Heritage and tradition are clearly evident in every detail. Great work, Pino Ragona and team – we’ll definitely be back!
